2005 is a celebration year for Miffy (in Dutch: Nijntje). On June 21 2005 it was 50 years since Dick Bruna first drew his creation Miffy, nowadays world famous. Bruna had a passion for drawing and painting from a very young age. After World War II, Bruna left school and went to London to become a publisher. A year later he left London for Paris, where he frequently visited the museums. The works of modern artists like Picasso, Matisse and Braque made a great impression on the young Dick Bruna, who still enjoyed painting and drawing. He then realized he wanted to become an artist and when he returned to The Netherlands he put his talents to use as an illustrator for the family business.
