A typical Dutch polder view with cows in "Het groene hart" (Green Heart) of The Netherlands. This region is located in the western part of the Netherlands. This open landscape was created as a result of maintenance by the farmers. On the edges of this open area, the four main cities of the country are located Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht. This urban metropolitan area is called Randstad. This open space in the urban environment of the Randstad is considered to be very valuable by both the government and the citizens in the Randstad and Green Heart. Because of cultural historical values, the different kinds of landscape appearances are protected by the central government. In the fourth Act on Spatial Development, the Green Heart was given the status of National Landscape.
